Tree felling with the Iban of Borneo

I just thought I would share this little clip with every one. These guys, I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with for over 25 years. I have just spent another month with them in the jungles of Borneo – every time I do, I learn something new. They may not have the formal training (or the PPE!!) but you can guarantee they will drop their tree on the button every time, true masters of the jungle, beit with a Parang in their hand or an oversized chain saw.

The Master indeed. Good old ‘Sugar Puff teeth’ (I think he has new falsies), its good to see him even though it’s via video – I miss wandering around the trees with him without a map and compass and struggling to weave the rattan ring properly while he looked on in amusement. I remember once cutting a new helicopter winch hole with him as my mentor – minimum effort for maximum end state is the best way to describe the technique. Great post Andy.

Good to hear from you Jez!
The old fella has been very poorly recently but is back on his feet now …took him some local cake and grapes in hospital that he wolfed down in seconds (Nothing wrong with his appetite!!), sarcastically asked him if he enjoyed that – reply, NO Kowan!, Too sweet!!
There was a wee bit of longhouse/Boma badness going on, I wouldn’t have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes; will tell you all about it over a beer one day.
      Hope all are well.
