Workshop Intro

Bushcraft Expeditions workshops are designed for those that do not have the time to attend the longer courses or expedition and want to concentrate on a particular subject. Each workshop is a combination of in depth instruction and practical application that will lead you through the many bushcraft, rural and subsistence skills of our ancestors.

Workshop instruction commences at 10:00 am (groups meet at 9:00 am) and finishes at 5:00 pm. All meals are self catering.

1. Seashore Wild foods Workshop

The Seashore wild foods workshop will enable you to identify, collect and prepare
safely the multitude of wild foods available along the English coast line.
During the workshop you will be guided by Bushcraft Expeditions staff. You will be instructed in techniques for identifying, collecting, preparing and dressing wild seafood's and seasonal coastal plants and at the end of the workshop enjoy a feast of your own making.

2. Seasonal Wild foods Workshops (Forest , Field and Stream)

The Seasonal wild foods workshops ( Forest , Field and stream) will enable you to identify, collect and prepare safely the multitude of wild foods available in the English country side. During the workshop you will be guided by Bushcraft Expeditions staff and will be instructed in techniques for identifying, collecting, preparing and dressing wild seasonal edibles and at the end of the workshop enjoy a feast of your own making

3. Field Cookery Workshop

When setting out into the wilderness few people give much thought to provisions for the journey or how they are going to cook them. On the field cookery workshop we will guide you through the multitude of contemporary equipment available as well as introducing you to traditional methods from around the world. We will cook sub-surface and on the open fire, in Dutch ovens and Pojke to name but a few. Never again will meals in the field be a chore, but become a highlight of the day as you learn to prepare hearty meals and drinks that you can enjoy around the camp fire.

4. Fungi Foray and Workshop with John Wright

John Wright is a leading expert on Fungi and has presented numerous TV
programmes around the country as well as being a published author and lecturer on the subject. A walk in the forests and field with John and the Bushcraft Expeditions staff will truly open your eyes to the abundance of edible and useful fungi that are to be found in the English countryside. During the workshop you will be guided through the identification of wild edible, useful and poisonous Fungi and at the end of the workshop we will cook and sample our findings over an open fire in the forest.

5. Field Butchery and Game preparation Workshop

Whether you are a small holder, subsistence farmer or bushcraft
enthusiast the Field butchery and Game preparation workshop will give you all the necessary skills to dress, bone, roll and prepare your own large and small game and fish. The workshop is led by Bushcraft Expeditions staff who will demonstrate all the intricacies of field and home butchery that will enable you to prepare your own Venison (or similar) small game, fowl and fish. From spatchcocking a pigeon for that quick field meal, boning out a whole large animal or filleting a variety of fish, during the Field Butchery and Game preparation workshop you will aquire the skills to master them all.

6. Herbal Medicinal Workshop

Georgie Corrywright is a qualified Herbal Medicinal who, together with the Bushcraft Expeditions team will guide you through the identification, preparation, uses, and application of the myriad of wild herbal medicines available in the English countryside. During the workshop you will learn how to prepare a variety of
lotions, tinctures, ointments and balms as well as learning the various
healing properties of our indigenous plants and the folklore that surrounds them. At the end of the workshop you will go away with a wealth of knowledge and some preparations of your own making.

7. Campcraft and Field Expediency Workshop

The natural resources of the English countryside are a rich and abundant supply to the skilled craftsmen and women who know how to utilise them. During this workshop you will be taught the skills to make items of utility and beauty from the wealth of materials available to us. At the end of the workshop you will have a greater understanding of the possibilities and be able to create many varieties of camp furniture, field expedient tools and other functional items of your own that will make your stay in the wilderness more comfortable and enjoyable.

8. Tracking, An introduction to tracks and sign

The tracks and signs workshop is designed to give you an introduction to the world of tracking. During the workshop you will be taught how to locate, identify and interpret the signs and marks left by the wildlife around us. At the end of the workshop you will have a greater understanding of animal behaviour and habits that will enable you to get
closer to them in their natural environment.

9. Primitive Fire workshop

Our primitive fire workshop focuses on the many methods of fire starting our ancestors used from around the world. During the workshop we will cover all aspects of primitive friction, percussion and combustion methods of fire making. At the end of the day you will go away with a greater understanding of the many techniques that are often so closely guarded and be able to apply them yourself.

10. Festive workshops

During the festive workshops we cover a variety of subjects and
learn how to make festive articles applicable to the holiday (Easter, Halloween or Christmas) as well as seasonal meals and drinks cooked over the open fire using natures resources. This is the ideal opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors and is an alternative to the slightly longer families courses.

(The festive workshops are geared around families, 1 st child is free all additional children £20.00 each)

11. Navigation Workshop

Our Navigation workshop will give you the necessary skill to be able to interpret a map and use it safely and accurately in conjunction with a compass and/or Global positioning system (GPS). You will be given in depth instruction on map reading techniques, taking and plotting bearings, time and distance, the use of the compass, re-locating by re-section and a variety of other skills that will open up the wilderness to you with a new found confidence in your navigational ability.

12. Coracle building Workshop

The ancient art of Coracle building is a skill that is rapidly being lost to the modern world. There are however a few skilled craftsmen that are awakening peoples interest in this long forgotten craft. During this workshop you will be taught all the necessary skills to create your own Coracle and take it away with you at the end of day having tested it on the local lake.

13. Create your own workshop

If you would like Bushcraft Expeditions to create a one or two day workshop specific to your needs we are fortunate to be associated with a wealth of skilled crafts men and women from around the country that can normally accommodate your requests. The subject does not necessarily have to be in the list above but if we can help we will.
